21st Century Tooth Replacement: Dentures in Lansdale

Quakertown tooth implant supported dentures

“The Good Old Days.” We’ve seen so many technological advances since then! Take dentures, for instance. Dentures have been around for generations and have certainly improved the lives of thousands of people. But today, there are better options than old-school false teeth, in Lansdale and everywhere else.

Traditional dentures can impede many vital oral functions: chewing, tasting, swallowing, talking, and smiling. Some people have stopped attending social activities because they’re embarrassed by dentures that are too conspicuous. Some have even stopped eating their favorite foods because their dentures diminish their capacity to taste and/or chew.

Let’s hear it for the twenty-first century! For many patients, implant-anchored or implant-supported dentures are far superior to old-school dentures. So much better, in fact, that there really should be another term for this industry-leading tooth replacement system – a term that doesn’t include the word “denture.”

There are two types of implant anchored dentures: removable and permanent. No adhesive is needed for either system. With the permanent implant-supported dentures, screw retentions are anchored in the jaw to serve as denture attachment points. This type is very stable. The cost varies, depending on the number of implants required and other factors.

Implant-supported dentures require enough bone thickness to allow the implant to securely mesh with the existing bone. Some patients who have been missing teeth for a long time have experienced bone loss. For these patients, mini-implants may be an alternative.

Removable implant anchored dentures have a locator attachment that allows the wearer to snap the appliance in place. Some patients prefer this type because they can remove them at night for cleaning.
